A container terminal never stops. Every hour the operating system is unresponsive is paid in vessels waiting for berth and trucks queuing at the gate, and that is the constraint any change has to be designed around.
We led the implementation of a Navis N4 terminal operating system in the cloud from kickoff to close, the first in South America. The maintenance window was planned to the minute against the vessel schedule, with the way back ready before we started. We integrated the new core with the invoicing system and with a customer management portal that did not exist until then: appointments, container gate-in and gate-out requests, inspection requests, invoice generation and booking management.
Yard connectivity had to be rethought. Wi-Fi lost coverage exactly where it was needed most: once containers are stacked high, blind spots and dropouts appear that leave the operator without a system mid-move. We deployed 4G/5G across the yard, the berth, the gates and the stuffing and stripping areas, and Wi-Fi stayed as the fallback. The result was measured where it counts: response times and productivity per move.
This is not sector theory. These are projects we directed, with the business depending on the outcome.
