IT Governance and Technology Strategy

Deciding on technology in business terms: where to invest, how to measure the return, and who is accountable for it.

The problem, in business terms

Technology budgets get approved against a vendor roadmap instead of a business case. A year in, nobody can say what the investment produced, and the next budget is argued on faith.

How we approach it

  • The business case comes before the vendor. What outcome is being bought, how it will be measured, and who owns the number.
  • COBIT and ITIL 4 as reference frames, applied to the size of the organization rather than imposed whole.
  • Every technical milestone tied to an operating or financial indicator. A milestone that moves no indicator is a milestone worth questioning.

What backs us here

We do not resell platforms. That is what lets us say a project is not worth the investment, which is the recommendation a vendor with a product to place is rarely in a position to make.
