EXPERIENCE, PUBLIC SECTOR
Consolidating 21 databases of a public agency without losing a record
Technical leadership by our Products and Services Manager, in two phases (2024 and 2025), of the data migration of a national public registry agency to a centralized database, as lead consultant for a firm specialized in data.
The challenge
An agency that records information with legal effect cannot lose or alter a single record. Its data was spread across 21 heterogeneous databases, built at different times and with different criteria, and the systems that used them had to keep running while the migration took place.
What was done
- Technical leadership of the migration portfolio in both phases, from the analysis of the legacy schemas to go live.
- Consolidation into a centralized Oracle database, with ETL processes (extraction, transformation and loading) in Oracle Data Integrator for millions of records.
- Optimization of the ETL processes and the queries, so the migration would fit the available windows.
- Continuity of the critical systems during each transition, coordinated with the agency’s business areas.
Result
- The 21 databases were consolidated into a single infrastructure.
- Processing times dropped by 40% after optimizing the ETL processes and the queries.
- The information was migrated complete, with no data loss.
- The critical systems kept running through both phases, and the schedule was met.
